Introduction
Pakistan is a developing nation very much in need of a large number of well prepared mathematicians for its universities, colleges and schools. During the past 5 years, the Abdus Salam School of Mathematical Sciences (ASSMS) with the help of Pakistani mathematical community has made very concrete efforts to meet this need. As a result of some of these efforts, the ASSMS has been successful in creating a Ph. D program which now has 97 full time Ph.D students, 18 have already completed their Ph. D degree. Several other universities in Pakistan also have Ph. D programs in mathematics, although of smaller size.

The 4th World Conference on 21st Century Mathematics 2009 is being organized to:

A) Provide an opportunity to young mathematics scholars to interact with well known mathematicians from abroad. Such an interaction will broaden their research horizon and will introduce them to new problems that they can work on.

B) Provide a platform to the mathematicians from all over the world to exchange ideas about mathematics education and research. Such an interaction can lead to fruitful long term collaborations which will be beneficial for the development of mathematics.

This conference is being held under the auspices of the European Mathematical Society, International Mathematical Union, The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics and Higher Education Commision. About 400 participants including 65-70 foreign speakers are expected to attend the conference.
